Two large outstanding semi-rural Cape Peninsula homes comes up for sale
Posted: 3rd August 2010
"I can remember very few times in my career where we have had so many really good homes on the market at such reasonable prices,” says Lanice Steward, MD of Anne Porter Knight Frank. "Now," she adds, “is a good time to buy."

Steward chose two homes for particular commendation.

The first is a magnificent Cape Dutch mansion in Tokai and referred to in APKF’s sales list p
as “the grand lady of this area".

The home, which has beautiful hol-en-bol gables on both its two front façades (and on the garages), breaks with Cape Dutch tradition by being double storey and having wooden floors but like Groote Schuur and Boschendal, is authentic in other respects. It has been comprehensively renovated and modernised.

The facilities include five bedrooms, four bathrooms, living, dining, hall/reception areas, a library and scullery and a wine cellar. The grand staircase is made of teak.

The fully developed garden has a large swimming pool, a fountain and parking for 20 cars.

Barbara Stephenson of APKF says that the home would suit someone with a big family and a grand entertainment-orientated lifestyle.

The asking price is just under R6 million.

The second home to be chosen by Steward for a mention is in Tokai on the slopes of the mountain and, once again, is one of the "grande maisons" of the area. Built in a ranch-Spanish style with a red tiled roof, a wraparound front patio (with a pergola), capped chimneys and white walls, this home also have five bedrooms (all en suite), a study and four living/dining rooms, all with wooden floors or porcelain tiled floors.

In addition, the home has three private suites and a flatlet. A rock built viewpoint opens up the views and a carefully kept lawn (with tall palm trees) slopes down to a big swimming pool.

"Obviously," said Steward, “this home has the potential to be a truly luxurious guest house or B & B but, if it is bought by a family, they will be in the fortunate position of having ample space for a family or many friends to come and stay.”

The home is in near-perfect condition.

The APKF list price is R9,95 million.
