GRACIOUS VICTORIAN HOME COMES ONTO THE MARKET

Anne Porter Knight Frank’s Atlantic Seaboard office, which operates from Regent Road, Sea Point, is currently marketing an unique terrace home on the border of Bantry Bay.  The home has been described in the sales brochure as “a serene Victorian home of classical character”.

 The home has been featured in Condé Nast House & Garden and on Top Billing. It is, says Anne Hamilton of APKF, “one of the most interesting and beautiful properties presently on the market” and could be particularly suited to people who appreciate good design and have discerning taste.

 The house, which is now some 100 years old, has been sensitively restored by John Jacob Interiors. JJ Zwiegelaar, the CEO of John Jacob Interiors, said that the building had been stripped of its architraves, cornices and other fascinating details and the interior had become a “mishmash” of awkward and lifeless rooms.

 Most of the lost features and other details have been restored as part of the upgrade. Doors were enlarged and allowed to open onto the garden, which was also completely transformed and the kitchen garden was given new life with a pool and water feature, paving and landscaping.  Internally bold white and black panel decorations and motifs were installed along with a variety of other features such as larger windows and chandeliers.

 The home has two “dramatic” double bedrooms, which open onto a balcony and a private terrace and two luxurious bathrooms, one with a central freestanding Victorian bath.  The two elegant, large reception rooms, one of which has a cast iron fireplace, were given special treatments.  The gourmet entertainer’s kitchen will for many people be the hub of the home.

 “The home,” says Hamilton, ”has been furnished to create a timeless and harmonious ambience.”

 The furnishings can be purchased (as an optional extra) which would relieve the purchaser of the stress of decorating.
